ABSTRACT

The article discusses the role of social innovation practices in their relationship with public institutions. The research presents an in-depth analysis of civic actions promoting social innovation in Turin (Italy). In the last few decades, the city has been praised as an example of urban regeneration characterized by a collaborative framework between self-organized initiatives and public authorities. The paper discusses the definition of social innovation and its features in an evolving context, presenting the challenges that these practices face. A grounded methodological approach is proposed, defining the term, which is always situated within the socio-material processes in which it is immersed.
